The Hernies
The Hernies
The Hernies is the Athens based, pet project of (and sort of pseudonym for) 22-year-old musician, song writer, and producer Henry Barbe. The Hernies name has been around since 2013 with the release of the self-titled EP, on which Barbe played and recorded everything himself. But it really started long before that. Barbe began playing music around the age of 12, soon after he became enamored with the 4-track tape machine and began recording all of his music. Around the same time Glenn Reece and Henry began to play in bands together. It wasn't until shortly after high school graduation that the Hernies was founded. Paul McCartney, the Minutermen, the Who, and Prince all played a major influence into Barbe's work, but the biggest influence may have been afternoon reruns of Friends and Seinfeld.

The music is now some cross between experimental pop and heartland rock songs that lead to something endearing, interesting, and exciting. The band has had a rotating cast of members but consistently features long time musical accomplice and longer time friend Glenn Reece on drums, and currently boasting the talents of Evan Amburn (Woodgrains) on bass and harmonies and the older brother of Barbe, Winston (Velocirapture) on guitar. The Hernies have opened for several national acts including Deerhunter, Beach House, and the Drive By Truckers, and often play around town.
